Jo Mack Sylvester of Houston Texas died April 14, 2024 at the age of 80 years old. Jo passed away peacefully at home in his sleep surrounded by his loved ones.
Jo was born July 21, 1943 in Honey Island, Texas to Leroy Armstrong and Osle Sylvester. In his early childhood years he went to live with his Grandparents, Buford and Mertis Williams in Silsbee, Texas, where he received his education. At a young age Jo gave his life to Christ and was a true believer in God.
Jo went on to serve his country in the United States Army for 20 years where he retired with a numerous amount of medals and awards acknowledging his achievements while serving. Throughout his time here on earth, he developed an immense love and passion for trains. He found joy in studying the history of trains, collecting model trains, and even putting his carpentry skills to use by repairing trains. Jo also had an unwavering devotion to carpentry; he had wonderful skill and loved sharing his creations with others.
Jo then went on to work for Harris County Department of Education. After retiring from the workforce, Jo spent his days and nights relaxing and enjoying his family.
Jo is survived by his loving wife, Johnnie Sylvester, of 35 years and his children Thaddeus, Kevin (Christy), Karen, Phillip (Lisia), Kimberly (Richard), as well as his former spouse, Carolyn Foster.
Jo was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Armstrong, his mother, Osie Sylvester; grandparents Buford and Mertis Williams; grandson, Blake Evan Sylvester; son-in-law, Christopher Douglas, and daughter-in-law, Tawayla McCoy. Jo is also survived by his grandchildren, who he loved: Brandon, Keonna, Brittany, Grant, Christopher, Jordan, Myracle, Danielle, L’oreal, Mary, Charles Anthony, David, Malcolm, Marissa, Faith and eight great-grandchildren, as well as a host of Nieces and Nephews; Sister and brother-in-laws and many, many others.
A visitation will be held for Jo on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 9am to 10am at Paradise Funeral Home located 10401 W. Montgomery Rd., Houston Texas 77088. The funeral service will be held from 10am to 12pm. Immediately following will be the Committal from 12:45 to 1pm at The Houston National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, Texas 77038.
