She was preceded in death by her husband Dave Swalm; her sister, Barbara O’Reilly; and brother-in-law, Joe O’Reilly. She is survived by daughter, Val White and husband Pat of Wellington; stepdaughter Lisa Frantz of Houston; stepson Clark Swalm and wife Nicole of Sarasota, Florida; and brother, Stephen Camp of Willis. She was Granny to nine grandchildren and Great Granny to nine great grandchildren. She was Aunt Beth to nephews and two nieces. Beth was Great Aunt to two great nephews.
Beth was valedictorian at Katy High School and she graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked for Sinclair and Arco Chemical Company most of her adult life until she married Dave Swalm January 1, 1979. They were married 29 years and they enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing and hosting family holidays. Beth and her husband Dave established the Swalm Foundation in 1979 to be able to give back to the community and to those less fortunate.
Beth served as President for many years. She valued giving to those in need and through her compassion and generosity many non-profits survived and thrived from Beth’s leadership in the Swalm Foundation. Over the Swalm Foundation’s 42 years of existence, grants were made to support charitable organizations, mostly in Texas. They focused on giving grants to social service agencies, providing assistance to the homeless, the hungry, the abused, and to educationally and culturally disadvantaged youth. Beth served on the CPS board of Colorado County and was active as a CASA volunteer for many years. She also served on the board of the Family Crisis Center in Bastrop.
Beth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her group of friends called the “Birthday Girls Club”. Our family would like to acknowledge and thank the amazing caregivers for Beth. Three beautiful women, Sunday Kennedy, Mary Odom, and Yvonne King, loved and tenderly cared for Beth as if she was a treasure from heaven. Beth was a true gift to us and many others while she was here on this earth.
