The sun rose in Houston, Texas on August 20, 1947 bringing new life to the late Rev. Henderson and Lula Johnson. This new life was Jo Ann Johnson. Jo Ann received Christ at an early age and she became a member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church where she was baptized by her Father, Rev. Henderson Johnson. She was a dedicated member of Morning Star Baptist Church for many years until health complications prevented her from attending. On June 14, 1969, she united in holy matrimony to Charles Skinner for 46 years. Jo Ann was blessed with a beautiful daughter Karen. JoAnn attended Sanderson Elementary and graduated from Kashmere Gardens High School. She then attended Texas Southern University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Special Education. Jo Ann worked at Methodist Hospital as a Lab Technician. She also worked at North Forest Independent School District as a teacher at Keahey Elementary School. She retired from the Houston Independent School District as a teacher at Hohl Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Henderson and Lula Johnson, brother Ocie Hall, son-in-law Rodney E. Curtis, father-in-law Charlie B. Skinner and mother-in-law Iva M. Skinner Isom. She leaves to cherish with precious memories, her husband Charles Skinner and her daughter Karen Curtis, nephew Robert Hall, three great nieces, one great nephew, four great-great nephews, two great-great nieces, one great-great-great nephew and a host of family and friends. Jo Ann's Life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 29, 2015. The viewing will begin at 9:00am. The Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00am.
