Jesse “Scottie” Scott was a quite gentle spirit that was kind, unassuming, thoughtful, and caring. “Scottie”, as he was affectionately called, was always ready to be of help. Some of this may have been because of his position in the family.
Jesse Sylvester Scott was born on July 26, 1947 to Jonah and Lubertha Scott. He was the fourth child of this loving family. His siblings were George, Jonah, Maxine, and Deloris. In 1967, Jesse married Charleen Stribling, their union lasted 50 wonderful years. From their union they became proud parents to Cedric and Stephanie Scott.
Jesse confessed his life to Christ as his Lord and Savor at an early age. He became a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. R.L. Russ was pastor at the time. Later Jesse joined the Holy Ghost Ministries in Flint, Michigan, while there he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and on the Board of Trustees. Jesse was a member of the Holy Ghost ministries for thirty-three blessed years. In 2010, Jesse became a member of the Church Without Walls and immediately became a member of S.A.L.T. Ministry.
Jesse grew up in Oneida, Arkansas where he attended elementary and middle school. He attended C.V. White High School in Lakeview, Arkansas where he received his diploma. Once he graduated from high school he attended Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan where he became a Tinsmith. He was employed with General Motors Corp. where he received his certification as a journeyman, where he was employed there for thirty-five years.
Jesse wasn’t just a tinsmith and journeyman, he wore several different hats. He was general contractor, a great “do it youselfer”, and a mechanic. He knew all you needed to know about cars and he never stopped learning and improving his skills. After retiring from GM he became a certified Class A CDL 18 wheeler semi-truck driver. Jesse was on the road for 4 years with Swift Transportation; he also teamed up with his son Cedric and worked with Transportation Motor Coach Services.
Jesse had a fond passion for outdoors. There was nothing like the wind blowing on his face and the open road ahead of him while riding his Harley Davidson motor cycle. He loved fishing, it was very quiet the pond and very beautiful. The beauty and peace while at the fishing pond put him in the presence of God. He also loved basketball, it gave him a chance to witness others enjoyment of playing and watching the sport. Basketball allowed him to listen and to share with those who may have been discouraged or confused.
