Jerry Huston was born May 22, 1949, in Huntsville, Alabama to Shelby Huston Senior, and Mattie Huston. Jerry was always a bright student as he attended elementary and middle school in Huntsville Alabama. Jerry grew up in the church as he attended Mount Olive Baptist Church. Later he attended John Welsey United Methodist and Faithbridge in Houston, TX.
He was admired and was a natural leader as he was Valedictorian of his Highschool. He excelled at sports but was exceptional at percussion. He earned and was given the title best drummer in Alabama. He excelled in school and had many academic scholarship offers from some of the most well-known colleges in the country, but he chose Willey College in Marshall, TX. Jerry said he chose Willey without ever visiting because of his fascination with Cowboys and western movies. When he arrived he realized that there were no cowboys in Marshall and almost returned back to Alabama. It’s a good thing that he decided to stay because there he met the woman of his dreams and life partner Ruby Huston. The two of them began to connect by walking from class to class and talking about simple things around campus like most courtships. This courtship grew into a true connection that would last a lifetime. The two were married on June 28, 1972, and gave birth to their first son Kerry DelJuan the following year on April 4, 1973. Jerry and Ruby moved to Prairie View where Ruby received a master's degree in psychology. On April 8, 1977, the family grew by one with the addition of their first and only daughter Qiana La’Von. To complete the family of five, Christopher O’Neil was born on December 15, 1986. He also pledged in the Omega Psi Phi fraternity which he always held dear to his heart.
The Huston’s moved to Houston in 1978 where Jerry started Huston & Associates. This business venture ensured that people could achieve financial independence and take care of their families through different financial pathways. Jerry didn’t just build a business, he built created a family with DNA of success and fellowship. He was their “Coach.” He was a coach in business but also a coach at home He was a true man and a real father who made his family top priority. He attended the baseball games, gymnastics meets, dance recitals, karate tournaments, school functions, etc. Jerry and Ruby were inseparable until God decided otherwise. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Ruby Huston, sister Shirey Macon, Shelby Houston Jr., and Mother Mattie Curry.
He passed away peacefully, yet unexpectedly of a heart attack on Tuesday, November 19th, 2019 in Houston. He is survived by his Mother-in-law, Daisy Green, Children Kerry, Qiana, Christopher, and Teddy Huston. Grandchildren Joshua and Ariana, and siblings Pete Curry and Brenda Miles, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He will be missed dearly but will remain everlasting in their memories and hearts.
