Jen Collier Blalock, age 90, died peacefully Wednesday night, the 12th of August, 2015. Jen was born in Temple, Texas on the 17th of March, 1925, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E. Collier. Jen received her B.A. from the University of Texas in Fine Arts. In 1951 Jen married the love of her life, Myron Geer Blalock, Jr.; they lived in Houston and started a family in 1954.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she loved her involvement in the arts throughout her entire life. Jen was a member of Houston Country Club, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, The Watercolor Society of Houston, Polly Painters, and Tanglewood Garden Club.
Jen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Myron Geer Blalock, Jr. and her brother, Arthur E. Collier, Jr. She is survived by her son, Myron Geer Blalock III, and wife Rosanna. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Myron Geer Blalock IV and wife Libba, and Holly Collier Blalock, and her great-granddaughter, Winn Montgomery Blalock.
The family desires to extend its heartfelt appreciation for over 25 years of loving service from her dear friend and caregiver, Veronica Soto, along with her other caregivers, Nellie Adams, Christina Aquila, and Manuela Navarro. The family is also greatly appreciative of the passionate care of the professionals at St. Luke’s Hospital.
The graveside service will be conducted at Grange Hall Cemetery in Marshall, Texas at one o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 17th of August.
The memorial service will be held at two o’clock on Tuesday, the 18th of August, in the chapel of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston with Rev. Linda Christians officiating.
The pallbearers are Myron Geer Blalock IV, Dr. Bill Banks, and Hap Hunnicutt of Houston; Charlie Blalock, Bob Campbell, Scott Campbell, and Gregg Campbell of Marshall; and Mark Brelsford of Austin. Lewis Tarver of San Antonio, and John Bunten of Dallas will be honorary pallbearers.
