The family of Jean Jackson announces with deep sadness her death on August 26, 2021. Jean was born on May 12, 1927 in Houston, Texas. She lived and worked most of her life in Houston, where she met her husband, Harry L. Jackson. Jean and Harry were married on January 9, 1951 and enjoyed thirty-nine years of marriage before Harry’s passing in 1990.
Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is remembered for her cooking and great gatherings at the family table. Jean’s greatest pleasures were gardening, butterflies, long walks, travelling especially to New Braunfels and staying at The Other Place, and spending time with her loved ones.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Harry who passed away in 1990; her parents Andrew LaRive Sr.and his wife Lillian; her brothers Andrew Jr. and Valerie LaRive. She is survived by her children Michael Jackson and wife Liz, David Jackson and wife Gloria (deceased), and Suzi Amelang.
She is also survived by her adored grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as Bama: Michelle Johnson and husband Elton, Heath Jackson and wife Adriana, Justin Osborn and wife Claudia, Jennifer Amelang Schmidt and husband Gary, Mark Cantu, Linda Ricker and husband Daryn, and John David Cantu (deceased).
The great grandchildren were equally adored by Bama: Ty Johnson, Harper Jackson, Matteo Calero-Osborn, Marcus Cantu and wife Sarah, Daryn Ricker II, Joshua Cantu and son Jaziel, and Jacob Cantu.
A visitation for Jean will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.
Bama loved flowers and all of nature. Flowers can be donated for her visitation and burial via Pat H. Foley funeral home. Monetary donations can also be made in her memory to the Cockrell Butterfly Museum at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
