Jayla Rene Celestine also affectionally called “Jay”, “Tee-Nanny”, and “Rene”, daughter of Jerome Joseph Celestine and Danielle Rene Turner was born July 17, 2006 in Houston, TX. She currently attended Wunderlich Intermediate School and was in the 8th grade. At the early age of 6 Jayla knew she wanted to belong to Christ and was baptized at New Destiny Praise and Worship Center, Houston, TX. While at New Destiny Jayla belonged to the youth and tween ministry.
Jayla was a member of the Wunderlich Volleyball team, Track and Field, and played the flute in the Symphonic and Jazz Band. She was an inaugural participate of the Nike Game Growers initiative to reintegrate girls back into sport. Jayla was a beacon at Wunderlich, and her light stood as an example for the teachers and students alike. Jayla was known at school to be “The Mother Hen” because of her need to care for others. Jayla was selfless, caring, compassionate, and loving. Her love for others was remarkable. In such a short time on earth, Jayla impacted so many near and far. Her personality and generous spirit spread like a wildflower. In fact, because of her selflessness, others will have life through her organ donation. Her influence will remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life, Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1:33 am in Texas Children’s Hospital located in Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Leonard Turner, and her grandmother Anita Celestine.
Jayla’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her parents: Jerome Celestine and Danielle Rene Turner. Her stepmother; Tameka Celestine. Her grandmother; Dale Couto Turner. Her brothers and sister: Jerome Celestine Jr., Jermarcus Celestine, Joshua Celestine, Dominic Celestine, and Jertanga Celestine. Her aunts and uncles: Leonard Turner Jr., Aurbanell Turner Tallette (Brian Sr.), Shelanna Turner Pickett (Reginald), Rochelle Celestine, and Darwin Turner. Jayla will be greatly missed by her Godbrothers Brian Tallette Jr. and Ka’Jean Tallette, Her best friends: Makenna Jackson, Paige Carter, Nadia Jude-Irick, and Re’Knaya Duran. She will be missed by the staff and her friends at Kaiser Elementary, Wunderlich Intermediate, and participates of the Nike Game Growers Initiative. She will be missed by a host of Great aunts, Great uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A viewing will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brookside Funeral Home- Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Pkwy., Houston, TX 77068. A celebration of life for Jayla Rene Celestine will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11:00 am at Brookside Funeral Home-Champions officiated by Williams Jackson Sr. A cremation will follow later.
The family of Jayla Celestine wishes to extend our sincere thanks to: Kristi Cook, her guidance counselor, Karrissa Hubbard, her volleyball coach, Tommy Patterson, her band director, and her devoted teachers at Wunderlich Intermediate. In lieu of a reception, a balloon release will take place immediately after service in the parking lot of the funeral home.
