Jay Ralph Tate, 74, a Dallas native and longtime Houston resident who was active as a sales representative in the publishing business, died at his Houston home on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, with family members by his side. Ralph was born on June 12, 1947 in Dallas, TX. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1965 and studied Business Administration at Schreiner Jr. College for two years. He graduated from Southwestern University with a BA degree in Psychology in 1970 and was an alumnus of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Ralph found his niche in salesmanship early in his career, working as a Sales Representative for several publishing companies including Page/International Communications, DiscPro Printing and Graphics, and Southwest Precision Printers, becoming one of the premier print sales reps of the Houston/ Gulf Coast markets. His customers recognized his attention to detail and customer service first approach to print sales as contributing to his impeccable reputation. Ralph was an avid golf player. He was also skilled as an ordained minister, presiding over weddings for both his brother Kirk and nephew Kyle. His ability to mix his polished humor with poignant observations was enjoyed by everyone. His repertoire of puns, dad jokes, and slight-of-hand magic tricks were his notorious forms of entertainment that were much loved.
Ralph is survived by his brothers Kirk, Mark, William (Tommy) Tate, and George Denton; his sister Dianne Kilday; former wife, Linda Tate; daughter Allison Tate Campos; son Luke Anderson; and stepsons Darin, Ryan, and Mike O’Connell. He is predeceased by his father William Thomas Tate; and mother Mozelle Hall Tate. Jay Ralph Tate, a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend, will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
