Jarvis Deveral Bates was born to Maisha Bates on July 2, 1989 in Amarillo, TX and spent his formative years there until moving to Houston, TX in 1997.
In Houston he matriculated through Betsy Ross Elementary, Clifton Middle School, and Booker T. Washington HSEP graduating in the class of 2007. While in school, he played basketball and football, sporting the #29 proudly for the Mighty War Eagles. He attended and played football at Texas Southern University.
Jarvis accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very early age and joined Bright Star Holy Ghost Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized under Rev. C.L. Campbell, Jr. on June 11, 2002. He enjoyed singing in the choir, participating in the church programs, and leading Vacation Bible School.
Jarvis was a devoted loyal son, brother, father, and friend. Although he was a quiet, laid back guy, his presence was very much known and felt in the room. Comical in his own subtle way, Jarvis was easily the life of family gatherings.
Jarvis enjoyed working with special needs children; imparting knowledge on valuable life skills, exploring his cooking skills, as well as, coming up with different recipes, and spending time with family and friends.
On November 17, 2021, Jarvis whispered his goodbyes to his earthly family, closed his eyes and opened them to be greeted by his grandfather, Mr. Bruce A. Webber and grandmother, Ms. Erica T. Kitchen. This was a life that began unexpectedly but ended well lived, and well loved.
Left to celebrate treasured memories are: his mother, Maisha Bates-Harrell; his Pops, Renrick Harrell (Christina); siblings, Dai’Ja M. Harrell, Cynai Ray and Darrell “DJ” Ray; children, Benjamin Joseph Connor Bates and Saniyah Camille Hays and their mother, Gabrielle Hays; biological father, Ronny Johns and sweetheart, Precious Marie Bluiett. He also leaves his grandfather, Ronnie A. Smith; grandmothers, Melba Webber, Donna Hughes, and Shirley Harrell; great grandmothers, Helen Webber and Josephine Connor; special brothers Joseph Hatch, Joshua Webber, Marquis Harrell and Jackie Robinson; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
