Janice united with Macedonia Baptist Church at a very early age, where she was baptized by the late Rev. J.T. Porter. She remained a member of Macedonia throughout the many years until her death.
She attended Clinton Park Elementary school, E.O Smith High school, and graduated from San Jacinto High school. Her first job was at Brown and Root. She was later employed with Houston Independent School District, Milby High school’s Food Services Department for over 25 years until retiring to care for her late husband, Alan Carter who had become ill.
Janice life revolved around her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She gave unconditional love to everyone that she came into contact with. She was a great cook. She loved to sample all types of foods and explore the many restaurants. Janice will be deeply missed.
Janice was also the President of the “ Ladies with a Purpose” club were she organized toy drives for children in need, held turkey giveaways for families during the holidays, as well as a host of other charities and fundraisers. She frequently travelled with her club sisters and enjoyed spending time with them.
On April 8, 2023 she was visited by an Angel of Death and departed this earthly life at Memorial Hermann Hospital at 1:30 am. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Milton Brown Sr and Ora Delores Brown, her husband Alan Carter, her daughter Keisha Brown, her son Rico Blate (Rock), her brothers Darryl Brown (Babyboo) and Milton Brown Jr ( Gator).
She leaves to cherish memories, her devoted son James Blate III, two granddaughters (twins) D’Mia Blate and D’Mya Blate; two sisters Cynthia Jones and Paula White; and one brother Henry Brown. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews and a countless number of relatives and friends.
