Janet Hoover Baker, 68, passed away December 11, 2020 from kidney disease in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her daughter Diana Baker, son Richard Baker Jr., daughter in law Dana Benyo, grandson Joshua Benyo Baker, mother Joyce Hoover, brother Alton Hoover Jr., sister in law Prue Hoover, and niece Melissa Abbott. Janet was born in Miami, Florida on June 21, 1952, and spent most of her life in Jacksonville, Florida. She was married to Richard Baker Sr. for 24 years before his passing. Janet earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from the University of South Florida in 1972. She earned a Master of Education from the University of North Florida in 1987. Janet worked for the Duval County Public Schools as an English teacher and assistant principal before retiring in 2010. She enjoyed reading literature, taking cooking classes, shopping, dogs, and spending time with her family. A small visitation will held December 16, 2020 at 5:00 PM at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd., Houston, Texas. A celebration of her life will be planned at a later date in Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Houston Sheltie Sanctuary.
