Jane Ellen Harris, 76, of Sugar Land, TX passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2024. She was born in Attleboro, MA on February 24, 1947, the daughter of William Frances and Anne Vincentine Barrett. Janie obtained her nursing license after graduating from high school and began working in the oncology department of a hospital. She worked for a variety of doctors in private practice before gaining employment at United Healthcare and later Aetna as a Quality Control Consultant where her depth of experience proved to be a valuable asset.
She was an avid cook, expanding her expertise to Tex-Mex after moving to Houston in the late 1970’s. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles in ink, playing tennis with her husband, and taking road trips to the Riverwalk in San Antonio or renting a lakeside cabin in Arkansas. Her love of animals and protective nature was evident in the health and disposition of her cats and dogs and her regular donations to the ASPCA.
Her parents and her elder sister Barbara preceded Janie in death. She is survived by her husband of thirty-two years, Charles “Monty” Harris, brother Mark Barrett and wife Adele, their children Edward Jr., Michael, Stephen and Richard, her daughter Lyssa Crosby and husband Mike and their children Tristan, Damia, Hunter and Connor, granddaughter Chelsea London and husband Mike and their children Tucker and Greta and granddaughter Kayleigh and her daughter Kyrah.
We wish to thank the medical staff at Methodist West, Methodist Continuing Care, Methodist Sugar Land and Allstar Hospice for the intense care given to Janie over the last six months. A memorial service for Janie will be announced in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to the ASPCA at www.ASPCA.org.
