Jim was a graduate of Lamar High School and earned his undergraduate degree in 1972 from Rice University. He continued his education attending the University of Houston earning a post-graduate degree. The degrees earned were in the fields of math and science. One of his professors, Mac, would not only become his future employer but also a lifelong friend. He is a current member of the Casualty Actuarial Society. His work has been his main passion. Yet, he cherished conversations with Dana, playing music with his friend, Bob, discussing science with Dr. Ron, talking investments with John, playing poker with his buddies in Bellville, Texas, chatting it up with the guys at the Bernardo Farm and Ranch and sharing food and wine with friends and family.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, James Lamar Whisenant, his mother, Margaret Box Whisenant and his canine family: Chili, Lucy, Roux and Sacha of Cat Spring, Texas. He is survived by his wife Brenda Whisenant of Houston, Texas, his stepdaughter, Dana Bucci and son-in-law Ben Bucci both of Houston, Texas, his best canine friend, Jazz and his “grand puppies,” Sous, Dobby and Willis. We are deeply grateful for the care, kindness and comfort provided to Jim by his doctors and nurses during his final days at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
According to Jim’s last wishes, he has chosen a private family service with a celebration of life for friends and family at a future date.
Lastly, Jim believed in contributing to causes, charities and scholarships. He did so throughout his lifetime helping those he knew and those he did not know. He was a believer in being your best human being through giving. His wishes are not that you donate to a charity of his choice but to consider then act upon that cause, charity or scholarship that needs your help the most. May he rest in peace and know he was well loved by all whose lives he touched.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.waltripfuneraldirectors.com for the Whisenant family.
