JAMES DAULTON "JIM" VEALE, 73, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on September 9, 2010, with his son Wade by his side. A lifelong Episcopalian, Jim's faith was always a source of comfort in his life.He is survived by his daughter Lisa Veale Gilbreath, son Wade Veale, son-in-law Wes Gilbreath, grandchildren Taylor and Reid Gilbreath, brother Tom Veale, sister-in-law Verleen Veale, nieces Tammy Reese, Barbara Dumaine, Julia Wolverrton and Lynn Cable. He is preceded in death by his parents, Daulton Moody Veale and Ethel French Veale and sister Nella Ruth Arnold.Jim spent his early years growing up in Texas City and later moved to Houston where he graduated from Austin High School. A state ranked pass receiver, he attended the University of Houston and Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana on a football scholarship.Jim always enjoyed the outdoors along with the simple pleasures life had to offer. An avid fisherman, Galveston Bay was his favorite destination. He also spent countless hours dove hunting with brother Tom and son Wade in Manvel, Texas.Along with his love of football and the many lifelong friends he made through the sport, his children and grandchildren were his greatest love of all. Taylor and Reid's "Papaw" was a steady fixture in the Klein area at not only their games but at their practices as well. Whether it was shagging balls in the outfield, hitting practice grounders to Reid's baseball team or always ready with a backup water jug if needed -he was there.Jim's legacy is the unconditional love and support he showered upon his children and grandchildren that will live forever in their hearts.A visitation is scheduled for Sunday the 12th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale.Funeral services will take place Monday the 13th at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Angels at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home and Cemetery with interment immediately following funeral services.In lieu of flowers,donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of America.
