James Monroe Ussery went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2020. A celebration of his life mass will take place at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church on West road in Houston, Texas on Monday, June 22, at 11 am. There will be a gravesite service following at 2 pm at Forest Park Cemetery on Westheimer. We are inviting family only but if you are a friend and feel you need to attend; you will be welcomed. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing inside the church.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Louise Ussery; his brother, Junior; his stepson, Jack “Jay” McKnight, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Samantha McKnight. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Dorothy “Dot” McKnight Ussery; his children, Wendy Sanders and Jason Ussery; his step-children/spouses, Mark McKnight, Craig and Ginger McKnight, Leslie and Richard Martin, Scott McKnight, Donna and Carlos Amaya along with 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and his sister, Patsy Sheffield. James was an army veteran and retired certified public accountant from Exxon after 31 years of service. He loved travel, driving anywhere, country western dancing, listening to country music and taking pictures of anything and everything.
James and Dot traveled throughout the United States and abroad, including Ireland and Greece. If he could have driven to Europe, he would have. James was a man of few words but you listened when he talked. James also had a great sense of humor and was could dish out a great one liner out of the blue. James taught through example of how he lived his life as a loving, loyal, considerate, generous man, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather… Words just don’t do justice to how amazing he was to all of us and how much we will miss him.
Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.
