James Richard Templeton , age 82, passed away due to Alzheimer’s on September 24, 2014. He was born to James Wilson Templeton and Leona Strayhorn Templeton on April 13, 1932 in Houston, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Merry McElwrath Templeton, his son Mac Templeton and his wife Donna, and their children Ashton and Reilly. His daughter Melissa Templeton Adams, husband Mike, and their children Emily, Luke and Audrey. He also leaves behind a sister Betty Adkins-Gilliam, and her husband Robert.
Jim attended Lamar High School in Houston Texas and graduated from the University of Texas with a Petroleum Engineering Degree in 1957. He worked in the oil and gas industry for 50 years with several different companies, Transco, United and Destec Energy. After retiring he continued to serve on the North American Energy Standards Board. For many years he organized the Old Timers Gasmen reunion at the Petroleum Club. He was a long time member of Chapelwood Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and loved hunting, fishing and just being outdoors. He spent many happy days in his retirement working and playing on his Lost Valley Ranch in Central Texas.
The family is very thankful for the loving care he received from Autumn Leaves of West Houston.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079, at 3 p.m. on Sunday September 28, 2014. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jim can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6055 South Loop E. Houston, Texas 77087.
