James Soukup was my friend for 45 years. In the beginning ,  he was my roommate for a time  along with Jeannie, who he eventually married . 
He was a very big part of my life and  helped me and my mom over the years.  He helped us in so many ways.   HeCould do it ALL!  I’ll never forget his kindness and helpfulness.
We had countless  great times  together ( along with Jeannie and , of course,  the whole  Klasen family) and shared the trials , tragedies and disappointments in life, as well. 
We also had times of disagreement and upset which caused us not to be close the last  few years of his life .   However, I never stopped loving James and will never forget him.

I did not have the good fortune to know Bubba as a man...but I was blessed by experiencing many happy times with him as he was growing up .  As a young boy he was absolutely delightful and I believe this was true of him throughout his legacy. 
The world has just lost a precious gift  but not  his influence.   I know he will be greatly missed but always carried in our hearts.

James Soukup was and extraordinary man. He lived a life of service as a Fire Fighter for 37yrs as is told here but what’s not told is his kind heart and beautiful smile and silly laugh, he could truly light up a room just by being in it. Kindness and joy seemed to seep from every pore of his body. He was a friend to so many but to my dearest friend Carolyn Soukup he was her husband, protector, Mr Fixit, step father to her to children who Loved & adored James. I can’t share a single memory because I can’t pick just one but I too  loved & adored James. He was a light and love of Carolyns life, for that alone I’m great full to him. He will be loved forever and missed beyond measure. No words can describe the whole his absence leaves in so many of our lives for so many reasons. Thank you James for being my friend, an amazing Husband to my amazing beautiful friend Carolyn and just for being you.  Fly high and God Speed May You Now Rest at Peace High on that Mountain. James , such an amazing man! He always made me laugh when we would see him!  Thank you for blessing my life ..

We were blessed to have had James in our lives for the time we had.   There were so many great qualities about James, where to begin?  My best friend Caroline introduced us to him years ago at our house for dinner.  Immediately I could see she was over the moon for him and him for her.  It was so easy to be his friend, it felt like we had already known him for years when we met him.  James has always been the kind of person that seemed to be in tune to everyone’s needs/emotions and was always so gracious.  Every time we were at the ranch, camping, or hanging out, he always made sure everyone had everything they needed and it came like second nature.   He liked to  keep our cups full of Sailor Jerry too!  James was the man with the plan.  He always had the right words if you had a problem you wanted to talk about, especially after we lost our dog Max.  We all shared so many great memories with James, my family was blessed to have had that chance.  May he rest in peace and know that we loved him dearly.  Until we see you again, Love the Johnson Family. 

James is one of the kindest men we’ve ever known.   It’s been such a blessing to know him and an honor to have him in our family. We love you James. Rest In Peace 🙏

I was one of James's instructors when He came through the Fire Training
Academy. I had the honor and the job of helping James to learn the skills 
that He would need to become a FireFighter in the Houston Fire Department. James always did all that was required of him and did it with
the best of his ability. I always enjoyed working with James as He was always eager to learn and finished in the top of his class. I am so proud James went on and obtained the promotions that He did. James was an
outstanding cadet and I am proud to have been his instructor.

I never knew James Brian Soukup, but I always knew "Bubba".  Met his family when my son Matt married his sister Claron.  Was deeply  impressed  with his do-it-yourself skills while visiting the beach house he built.  His friendly Texas twang, and sincere interest in those he met and talked with will always be remembered. 

Bubs was the one in the family that said go for it and get a military war dog...our friends, Cindy and Steve Beheba brought their MWD Mony N409 to his ranch and he was sold.  That was a super happy day for all!

After our dad died in 1998, James and I would joke that whoever died first would get to be buried next to Dad.  Not too long ago, he told me "looks like I am gonna win that one". . . and he did!

I walked into his fire station 27 years ago from the academy. He was my first captain and I was his first “rookie”. What a great person and mentor taken way too soon. He holds a special place in the hearts of my family. Rest in Piece Chief, we will take it from here.
