Upon the vast expanse of the ocean, where the call of freedom resonates, stood a man of immense strength and unwavering resolve. James Oliver Rosemond Sr., affectionately known as “Big James,” was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, and brother. His heart was deeply bound to his beloved family, yet it was on the open sea that his soul found true clarity and peace. Guided by the gentle breath of the ocean and illuminated by the stars above, James navigated life’s trials with the bravery of a seasoned captain, his spirit soaring beneath the night sky. Born on September 8, 1964, in Cameron, Texas, James embodied the true essence of living and touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.
His memory will be eternally cherished by his loving wife of 41 years, Danielle Monique Rosemond, whom he met in elementary school and married after attending Sam Houston High School on March 28, 1983. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three children: James Rosemond Jr. (Autumn), Jalisa Rosemond, and Jamel Rosemond. The joy of his life extended to his grandchildren, Reese Rosemond, Chelsea Rosemond, Preston Rosemond, and Journee Rosemond, as well as his loyal companion, his dog, Roscoe.
James was steadfast in his beliefs, fiercely defending those he loved, and continuously seeking self-improvement. He possessed a profound understanding of his identity and mission in this world. James was an exceptional individual with a remarkable talent for technology. His career began as a mechanic for Northtown, where he developed a fascination with machinery. This passion led him to Airdyne, where he specialized in and eventually led their compressor segment, working in Africa, China, Japan, Trinidad and Tobago, and several other nations. James concluded his distinguished career as a Master I&E Technician for Enterprise Products, dedicating ten years to the company. In his free time, James eagerly looked forward to hosting lively card parties where friends gathered to play spades, engaging in daily FaceTime chats with his grandchildren, fishing and exploring the vast waters on his boat, and enjoying movie nights with two of his closest friends, Dan and Karen Williams.
A devout member of St. Monica Catholic Church for over 30 years, James was deeply involved in his faith community. He served as the Deputy Grand Knight for the Knights of Peter Claver Branch 151 for two years and actively participated in the Usher and Eucharistic Ministries. He most recently took the reins in serving as the lead sound technician for St. Monica’s Annual Gospel Concert, embodying the spirit of service and devotion.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Henrietta Rosemond, father, James A. Rosemond, and brother, Joseph Benard Rosemond. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Rosemond, Roshan Rosemond, Roshun Rosemond, and Bobby Brown (Susan), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. James’ warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be profoundly missed, but it is now time for Captain “Big James” to rest.
