James (Tex) was born September 12, 1943, in Sublime, Texas, to Loyd and Sonora Ray.
He was a long-time resident of Houston, Texas, and graduated from Katy High School in 1964.
He served our country in The United States Air Force from 1964 -1968. James was stationed
in Spain, where he met and married his soul mate of 55 years, Obdulia Palacios.
Upon returning to the States, he began a career in the construction industry as a superintendent
for SpawGlass and Tellepsen Construction Companies. After 40 years of hard work, James
(Tex) retired in 2008.
He attended and served the Lord as a Deacon at Oak Forest Baptist Church and Langwood
Baptist Church for many years.
If there was one word that would sum up James (Tex) Ray, it would be “family”. His wife
Obdulia, his sons Andres and Sebastian, and daughter Sofia and their families were the most
important things in his life. Anyone who knew him understood that his light and his joy came
from his family, and he was their ultimate fan.
Mr. James Ray was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Carlos A. Ortiz; his parents, Reverend
Loyd T. Ray, and Sonora Ray; his brothers Loyd T. Ray Jr, Wayne Ray,Sammy Ray, Len Ray,
and sisters Nadene Ray, Edith Merl Ray, Dolores King and Ida Mae Rogers.
James is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Obdulia Ray; children, son; Andres Ray and
wife Tika; grandchildren; Andres Jr.,Aden, Alana and husband Jordan Holy and
great-granddaughter Abigail; son Sebastian Ray and wife Wendye and grandchildren Jaxen and
Daisye ;daughter: Sofia Ortiz and grandchildren Carlos Jr, Diego, Mateo, Arturo and Andres
Ortiz and a host of family and friends.
James (Tex) was a honorable, loyal, loving, trustworthy, committed husband, father,
grandfather, son, brother, and friend, and he will be greatly missed. He fought the good fight, he
finished the race; he kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).
