Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and by his daughter, Melissa McCoy Grimwade.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nettie McCoy of Houston, Texas, his sister, Patti Daniels of Birmingham, Alabama, daughter, Melinda Oslacky (Mike) of Douglasville, Georgia, daughter, Lana Lipinski (Eric) of San Antonio, Texas, and daughter, Kenly Ellerbe (Kenny) of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Five grandchildren, Lauren David, Stuart Ellerbe, Robin Lipinski, Mallory Oslacky, Michael Oslacky and five great grandchildren.
Jim graduated from Young High School in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1955. He served in the United States Navy from 1955-1959 as a second-class petty officer (Radioman). After receiving an honorable discharge, he enrolled at The University of Tennessee in 1959, and earned a BS degree in Business and Marketing in 1963.
Jim went to work for Sinclair Refining Company following graduation. Sinclair later became a part of Atlantic Richfield Company. Jim worked for both ARCO and ARCO Chemical Company for a period of 17 years. He came to Houston, TX in 1976 as a regional sales manager for ARCO Chemical. Jim left ARCO to go to work for Texas Olefins / Texas Petrochemicals Company in Houston in 1981 as a marketing manager. Jim retired from Texas Petrochemicals on January 1, 1999 after 17 years of service. Jim enjoyed shooting sports including hunting, target shooting, and cowboy action shooting. Other outside activities that he enjoyed included fishing and golfing.
Jim also enjoyed traveling with his family. Jim was a member of Second Baptist Church in Houston where he served as a deacon for several years. He was saved as a young man when he accepted Christ at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The family is planning a private memorial service in Knoxville Tennessee per Jim’s wishes.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be directed to the charity of ones choice.
Jim fought a long, brave battle with dementia. He was strong right to the end.
He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and Pappy. We will miss him beyond measure, but find comfort that he is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
