James was born on August 18, 1943, to Edward Allen and Ella Brown in Chicago, Ill. He was raised in DeBerry Tx. In his teen years he moved to Houston, TX where he completed his high school education at Kashmere High School graduating in 1963.
Upon completion of high school, he enlisted into the US Army and was honorably discharged in June 1966. James later met and married the love of his life, Ann, on Sept 23, 1967. The happy couple was blessed with three children: Roshell, James Jr., and Warren.
James was a baptized and active member of Jehovah’s Witness. Both he and his wife, Ann, devoted their lives as regular pioneers in serving Jehovah, and in raising their family.
In his secular life, he retired as a tractor trailer driver with United Parcel Service (UPS) after 30 years of service. During his leisure time he enjoyed many activities such as camping, bicycling, carpentry, capturing special moments with photography, and cooking delicious meals for his family and friends.
He was best known for his sharp wit, delightful sense of humor, and being a debonair dresser with impeccable style.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, one sister and two brothers.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife of 55 years Ann Long, children Roshell James, James Long Jr., Warren Long, a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, two brothers, Donald Mays and Delbert Mays, and many friends and relatives.
A memorial service for James will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 3802 Loverswood Lane, Houston, TX 77014.
