James Thomas Korte

Jim began his life in the Detroit area, leaving initially to attend his beloved alma mater, Notre Dame. After graduation, he then served in the Army where he was stationed in Germany. Jim married his first wife, Kathleen, and they raised four children together in Michigan. Jim’s second chapter in life brought him to Houston, where he married Maudie, eventually settling in Pearland. Jim was a devoted member of St. Helen Catholic Church where he served as an usher and volunteered for many years at the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Jim never met a stranger—he always took the time to converse with everyone he encountered. He will be remembered as a kind, loving, gentle soul with a big heart.

Jim is survived by his children, Kathleen Currier (Dennis Zinchook), Laura Korte, Paul Korte, and Mary Korte; stepchildren, Jan Semolic, Carol Fisher (Johnnie) and Pat Penker; his grandchildren Kris (Madison), Lauren, Jacob, Ryan, Madison, Andrei, Zoe, Benjamin, Kathryn, Patricia, Emily (Luke), David; and great-grandchildren Kinsley, Nona, and Per. Jim also leaves behind his first wife, co-parent, and life-long friend, Kathleen Murphy, and many other extended family members, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, including his dog, Ziggy.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Maudie; his parents, Leslie and Janet; his three siblings, William, Richard, Susan, and their spouses.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Nisha Narang and the staff at Bristol Park at Cypress Assisted Living facility for taking such good care of our Father over the past year, especially during the time when COVID-19 precautions prevented us from being there in person.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 4th, 10:30 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 19222 TX 249 Houston 77070. His inurnment will take place at 4:00 Friday afternoon at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77070
