James Virgil Jones

James “Virgil” Jones, 91, passed from this life into eternal life on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. He was born Saturday, June 20, 1931, as one of seven children to the late Columbus Edward and Daisy Maybelle Jones.

Virgil is preceded in death by his wife, Maria “Rita” Jones. He is survived by his loving daughter, Anna Marie Doody; son-in-law, John Michael Doody; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Virgil’s Christian faith was an essential part of his life. He was a devoted member of Houston’s First Baptist Church and enjoyed many years of Biblical fellowship with his fellow church members. He also sang in the church choir and rejoiced in singing songs of praise to the Lord. While he will be missed by many, we are thankful that he is again in the arms of his beloved wife Rita, who died in 2011.

To those who would like to say their last goodbye to Virgil, services will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Houston’s First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX, 77024, and conducted by Pastor Dau Ayub. Visitation begins at 10:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. A reception will be held after the service and the interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington Ave., Houston, TX 77007.
