James Richard Jaynes

James Richard Jaynes, age 56, entered into eternal life with his Creator on March 4, 2024, in Houston, Texas. James was born on January 1, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert Earl Jaynes and Rita Smith. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Smith, his father, Robert Earl Jaynes, and his godmother, Lee Green.

James is survived by, as he would describe her, “my beautiful, amazing, loving and kind” wife, Leah Jaynes; his three children, Jaylin Jaynes, Jocelin Jaynes, and Liam Jaynes; his mother Rita Smith, Bonus mom Judy Jaynes, his 6 siblings Stephanie Wallace (Johnathan), Edith Jaynes, Rodney King (Lavinia), Charles Ingram (Aimee), Lauren Jaynes, Sr. (Angela), Monica Jaynes and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

James graduated from Pass Christian High School in Pass Christian, MS. After graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving for three years until he was honorably/medically discharged. He then went on to Prairie View A&M University and graduated with a Chemical Engineering Degree. James was employed at Waste Management as a Project Manager.

James was grateful to his childhood friend George and his wife, who introduced him to a robust prayer life. He cherished their Monday night prayer time at 7 p.m. He was also a member of Lakewood Church, where he found support, guidance, and a sense of belonging through their “Maximized Manhood” and life groups ministry. He formed lasting bonds with other godly men who shared his passion for spiritual growth there. It was a joy for all to watch as James Richard matured in his personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

James Richard enjoyed filming podcasts with his son Liam, where he got Liam to open up and, more importantly, taught his beloved son life lessons. He treasured traveling with his family, seeing the world and experiencing different cultures. James loved to play sports, including chess, basketball, football, and baseball. As a little boy, he loved hunting, fishing, and camping with his family.

James was a true warrior. He fought the good fight of faith, trusting and believing in the sovereignty of the Lord. He never ceased to give God the glory through all that he endured. The struggle is now over, and he is forever healed. James (Richard) will be missed. His loved ones will always remember his smile and beautiful spirit. A piece of him will always live in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.
