It is with great sadness that the family of James Allen Haynes announces his passing on Wednesday, March 14, 2024 at the age of 82 years. He was born on December 18, 1941 in Acushnet, Massachusetts to the late Telitha and Thomas Haynes. James served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1965. He was a Private First Class E-3. James retired from the City of Houston as an Assistant Chief Plan Analyst, where he worked for over 30 years.
James will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Josefina Haynes and his children: Sandra (David) Reyna and Sarah Ceballos. James will also be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren: Skylar, Emersyn, Aaron, and Adan, as well as many other family members and good friends. He is preceded in death by his son Thomas Haynes and his grandson Juan Antonio Ceballos Jr. “Baby Johnny”.
Family and friends will remember James as a man who loved his family and always went above and beyond to provide. He instilled a love of history, a thirst for traveling, and patriotism. He loved the Lord and volunteered for many years as an usher at Lakewood Church. James loved his dog Sweetie Pie and would frequently take her on long walks. You could often find him watching his favorite old western, eating a bowl of Vanilla Blue Bell Ice Cream, drinking coffee, and writing out a greeting card to a family member adorned with an array of stickers. He was often outside, tending to his yard and his beloved peppers, as he took much pride in sharing them with others. A lover of old hymns, “Amazing Grace” was a favorite: “Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, and mortal life shall cease, I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace… When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright Shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun.”
