Mr. James Alex “Chick” Harrell, 92, of Houston, Texas passed away on April 2, 2019. Mr. Harrell was born October 20, 1926 in Midway, Texas and was the second youngest of eight children. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2019, in the chapel of Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039, with Rev. John Green officiating.
Mr. Harrell served in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his military service, he returned to Houston where he worked as an ironworker, and then became a Baptist preacher and barber for 40 years. Mr. Harrell met his wife, Eloise Mercer, an elementary school teacher, at Unity Baptist Church where the two were married for 60 years from 1949 until her passing in 2009.
Mr. Harrell touched many lives and was known for his warm heart, compassion, and ability to easily meet people, making them feel welcome. He never met a stranger and loved to share the Gospel of Jesus. He was known for saying, “May the good Lord bless you real good!”
Left to cherish his memories are: son, Mark Harrell and wife Linda; daughter, Jaime Foil and husband Randy; grandchildren: Lauren Harrell, Kathleen Alexander, Jana Foil, and Jenny Wauer.
