James W. Gillett of Montgomery, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. He was born in Waterloo, Iowa on February 19, 1949, and attended McPherson College in Kansas. He married Jean Gillett (Brewster) on March 29, 1969. They had 55 wonderful years together serving the Lord.
Jim had a lifelong passion for missions and founded Ireland Outreach International. He also started Emmaus Bible Centers in Africa and around the world.
He is survived by his loving wife Jean Gillett. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Priscilla Gillett, as well as his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Andrew Burnfield. His five precious grandchildren are Zoe, Lexi, and Izzy Gillett and Amelia and Sullivan Burnfield. His sister and brother-in-law are Mary and Paul Kline, and he was a proud uncle to Mark, Leah, Sarah, and Lois.
His life's scripture verse was Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jim Elliot's quote, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose," had a great influence on Jim's life.
A funeral service for Jim will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, followed by a short graveside service. Refreshments and fellowship after, hosted at Colonial Hills Bible Chapel, 14643 Henry Rd, Houston TX 77060.
