James Monroe Gann, 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 15, 2016. He was born on August 4, 1925 to Ben Carlton Gann and Carrine Rochell Gann in Thornton, Texas. James was raised at the Corsicana State Home. After graduating, he joined the Navy during WWII. Returning home he worked for Grand Prize till they closed then took a job at Ms. Bairds Bakery where he retired. During his retired years he also worked at Cargill and Coastal Grain Inspection. He was President for Humble AARP twice, took part in the senior activity center and enjoyed Bingo at the Catholic Church, eating at the Old Geezers Lunch, playing dominos with all his friends and spending time with family. This last December, he was presented with a plaque at the Nimitz Pacific War Museum in Fredericksburg for his service in the Navy during WWII. There is a memorial set up in his honor at the State Orphans Home Association in Corsicana. James is preceded in death by his wife, Modene Sibley Gann; brothers, John Earl Gann and Ben Carlton Gann Jr.; and sister, Lucille. He is survived by his only daughter, Melodye Westmoreland and husband Benny; grandchildren, Darin Westmoreland and wife Amber and Dammon Layne Westmoreland and wife Presley; nephew, John Gann and wife Susan; and nieces, Melodye Brooks and Carrine Bernshausen and special friend, Sandra Milum.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm at Brookside Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 1pm in the Grand Chapel of Brookside Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery.
