Jim Fischer was born May 10, 1922 in Austin Texas, moved to Houston in 1933. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1939. He served as a mechanic on Oahu and the Philippines in the $21 a month army during WWII for 5 years, 3 months and 2 days. He was married to Dorothy Roberts for 21 years and after her untimely death he married Theresa Gaffney Daly, his loving wife of 54 years.
In 1955 he founded Fischer and Floeck Auto Parts with Dan Floeck, established Fischer’s Auto Parts in the early 1960’s, merged with Hi-Lo Auto Parts in 1963.
He was on the board for several years at St. Thomas Catholic High School, St. John XXIII College Preparatory as well as founding father and board member at St. John Paul II Catholic School.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lodi Fischer, his first wife Dorothy, infant son Charles Thomas, brothers Jack and Charles Fischer and son-in-law Bill Baskin Sr. Jim Is survived by his wife Theresa; sons John (Ruth), James (Rosie), Steve (Debbie), Gary (Phuong), Dave (Lisa) and daughters Phyllis Carney (Tom), Patricia Taake (Leon), Frances Weatherly (Chris), Cathy Neill (Bill), Joyce Daly Lehotsky (Ed), Roberta Fischer (Gene Hair), Nancy Daly Knepp (Jeff), Laura Fischer, Janet Ann Daly Baskin, Theresa LeJuene (Fred), Dorene Fox (Carroll), and Janet Lee Stasney (Mark), as well as 42 grandchildren, 37great grand children, 4 great, great grand children as well as many nieces and nephews. We would like to thank our group of caregivers: Mercy, Liberty, Princess, Nora, Cheryl, Rachel, Audrey, Nik, Bing, and Raymond who helped keep Jim enjoying life, mobile and comfortable this past 11 months. We want to also thank nephew, Greg Fischer who has been a blessing to Jim and our entire family for the past several years.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions to the scholarship funds at St. John XXIII College Preparatory, St. Thomas High School, St. John Paul II Catholic School or a charity of your choice.
A visitation for Jim will be held Monday, December 12, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary to begin at 6:30 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, December 13, 2022 starting at 10:30 AM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Dr., Houston, TX 77024. A committal service will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
