James Lee Emerson, 84, of Houston, Texas, passed away on November 7, 2023. Jim was born on February 26, 1939 in Edna, Texas. His parents were Johnie Lee Emerson and Ila Mae Williams Emerson. He graduated from Edna High School where he was a member of the ROTC. He attended Victoria Junior College and later Southwest Texas State College on a music scholarship. He was a tank commander in the Army National Guard. Music was a big part of Jim's life. He loved to sing, was a choir director and played the trumpet. Jim was a religious man and a member of the Tallowood Baptist Church.
Jim had many passions. He often said the best day of his life was when he married Jamie Monroe Rushing on August 9, 1992. A wonderful marriage of 31 years. He had four children Jeffrey Lee Emerson, Joseph Leon Emerson, Kimberly Ann Finn, Melanie Kay Harrison, and one stepson George Henry Troxell IV. His favorite hobby was to exercise every morning at the Houstonian and run 5 miles. This regimen gave him the ability to climb Notch Mountain in Eagle County Colorado at the age of 81. He shared this moment with one of his dear friends Robert Mack. His best friend of 48 years was Michael Bryer. Jim was a member of The Knights of Momus Mardi Gras Crew of Galveston. He enjoyed the most working as President at his very successful business, Associated Mortgage Investors that he started 32 years ago.
Jim had a beautiful Celebration of Life Ceremony by Minister Duane Brooks at Tallowood Baptist Church. He was laid to rest at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, Texas Liberty Chapel Mausoleum on November 13, 2023. He was surrounded by family and loved one's.
