James Joseph Devries

He graduated Westminster H.S. in 1958 and went on to the Jesuit College “Regis” of Denver, Colorado. He was a fantastic baseball player and basketball player during his school years and went on to play for his company’s team.

When he was called to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates (beginning at Home team level). He said “No, I am a family man now” and gave up that dream for his family.

After college year, he went to work for the Denver Water Department for 10 years as a Service man and assistant dispatcher.

Later he joined the Continental Airlines staff at Stapleton Airport Denver, Colorado. He worked all facets of ground operations, he transferred to Seattle, Washington in 1971 for 20 years; then on to Dulles Airport in Herndon, Virginia for a couple years; off to Portland Oregon to be close to home and family for 6 years; back to Virginia and finally to Houston, TX as a Head Agent until his retirement in 2005.

Jim married his High School sweetheart in 1959 to Ava “Jody” and loved each of his four children as gifts from God. Tamie, Vicki, Jim Stephen, Cyndie.

His philosophy was always God first, then His wife Jody of 57 years. Then his four children, seven grandchildren, eight great grandkids, and one on the way.

His friends were a treasure for him, you all know who you are and what you shared with him.

Our church Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic was a very large part of his life. Being a Eucharistic Minister for 22 years was such an integral part of him, he was a great Christian, a gentle man and a gentleman who followed his Lord’s calling and took it seriously.

Our 55 plus club was his delight as he helped in so many ways, he went to as many trips, plays, parties, and get-togethers as he could. He was so proud to be “part of the group”.

He loved his genealogy, woodworking, donating blood, and helping others.

His parents Harry Sr., and Gartha, brothers Harry Jr., and wife Martha; Bud Melvin, Bill and his wife Mary, David, and his sister Winifred all went to be with the Lord before him and will all be there to hug him.

His home on earth was and always will be Colorado.

His ashes will be interred in graveside services later and I will let his friends and family know when.

He will be missed by so many – He gave great hugs and humor! Rest easy Jim as we will see you again when you and our Lord come and meet us.
