He was born in Houston, Texas on May 9, 1946. James graduated from Denison, Texas and completed his apprenticeship as a trade machinist. He was married to Mary Herridge Clayton on September 25, 1992.
James worked in the oil industry as a machinist and tool and die maker. He had a passion for golf, fishing, sports and traveling.
He is survived by his spouse, Mary Clayton; children, James Joseph Clayton IV (spouse, Melissa Clayton) and Stacy Ann Clayton; grandchildren, Casey Clayton, Lindsey Vela (spouse, Skyler Vela), James Clayton V (spouse, Lauren Clayton), Tyler Clayton, Jacob Clayton (spouse, Emma Clayton); great-grandchildren, Parker Vela, Kinley Clayton; brother, Stephen Clayton.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 1:00pm, January 9, 2023 at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
