He was born in Houston, Texas on January 14, 1950. James graduated from Sam Houston High School.
He married Linda Bryant on March 31, 1973.
James had a career in electrical engineering for Metro Transit Authority. He was a member of Hidden Valley Church of Christ, and had a passion for guns and woodworking.
He is survived by daughter, Amy Knapps; son-in-law, Edward Knapps Jr; grandchildren, Ariana Knapps and Caitlin Knapps; sister Carol Warren, brother-in-law Roger Warren, niece Andrea Butler, nephew Jeremy Warren, brother Ronald Bryant, niece Kristen Hale and nephew Matthew Bryant.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Donald Bryant.
