James (Jim) Lester Brooks age 68, passed away on October 24, 2017at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in Houston Texas. He was born on August 24, 1949 at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, Texas to Hosie Brooks and Roxie Roberson - Brooks. Jim grew up in Houston Texas. He attended grade school and graduated from High School in the Houston Independent School District. He later joined the military. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine Officer. Jim received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps. After his discharge from the military, Jim began a career as a financial consultant. He worked in other areas of the job market, but his passion was in the financial industry. Jim was a very good student in math, arithmetic and numbers. Jim loved people and he loved traveling. His hobbies include traveling, reading, golf and sports. He loved attending professional sport games and traveling to other cities in the US. He loved his family and he enjoyed attending family gatherings as well. As stated Jim grew up in Houston Texas. He was always outgoing and dressed really well. Jim has many characteristics about him that caused him to stand out as a person. For one, he never met a stranger. Everywhere Jim traveled, he became acquainted and familiar with his surroundings and the people in his surroundings. Jim was baptized at an early age, he accepted Christ as his Personal Lord and Savior. While he attended church he served as a deacon and a superintendent and teacher of his Sunday school class. He read his bible often, one of his favorite scriptures read as follows: Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding Jim was preceded in death by his parent(s) Hosie (Johnice) Brooks and his mother Roxie Arrington; his brothers Eddie Van Brooks, Walter Arrington, and Bennie Arrington Jr III; and sister Hazel Arrington Rodgers. Jim is survived by wife, Rose Brooks. He leaves to mourn a loving-caring, supportive and trusting confidant Pally Hensley of Houston Texas, a daughter Traci Mayfield of Houston Texas, Brothers Robert (Felisa) Chatman New London CT, Larry (Sandra) Johnson Oakland CA, Ray (Felisha) Arrington Houston Texas, Mary (William) Mason Navasota Texas, Kennedy (Janice) Arrington Bryan Texas, a daughter Traci Mayfield Houston Texas a grandson Jermaine and two granddaughter(s) Khyanna and Leslie Mayfield, 10 nieces and 6 nephews, 16 grandnieces and 17 grandnephews and a host of other relatives and close friends. Jim will be missed. He was well loved by all who knew him.
