James Clarke Box, 80, of Houston, passed away early Thursday morning. Everyone who knew him knew Jim was a family man who was the rock of his family. He is also well known for his tireless work in the development and home building industry. He began his career as a draftsman for the City of Houston & worked his way up to Senior Vice President with The Mischer Corporation where he was instrumental in the development of many subdivisions in the Houston area. He was a long time member of the Association of Water Board Directors, the Greater Houston Builders Association, Houston Contractors Association, Governor Perry's Water Advisory Council, Chairman of the Board on the Harris/Galveston Coastal Subsidence District, Chairman of the Houston Community College Foundation, along with many other associations, lobbying efforts on behalf of his industry and the sharing of his time, talents, & experience with people of all walks in his industry. He was known as a very generous person with his time, talents & life experience & worked tirelessly with his church, youth groups, & his community. However, his heart was his family and his beloved "farm" in Caldwell, Texas. He took a piece of land filled with mosquite & turned it into a picturesque farm where he loved to spend time with his wife & family riding his little yellow tractor. James was a man of God, & loved to remind his family that he prayed for them every night. He was a member of the Foundry Methodist Church in Houston.
He is survived by his wife Ellen Box, whom he was married to for 53 years, son, Doug Box & wife LaVelda, daughter Kandice Gremillion & husband Keith, daughter Allyson Koether & husband Brian, grandchildren; Daniel Popps & partner Lynette, David Box & wife Jennifer, Derrick Box & fiance Elle, Sam Barrick, Hannah Koether, Phillip Koether, great grandchildren; Kayo Popps & Michael Popps & Austin Box.
