Jim was born on the 23rd of July 1928 in San Antonio to Fotios and Aphroditi Bellos. Jim was proceeded in death by his wife Mary of 64 years. He is survived by his loving children, Dianna Gettas and her husband Nick and Peter Bellos and his grandchildren, Anastasia Ashikis and her husband John, John Gettas, and Mary Saunders and her husband Tommy. He is also survived by his two great-grandchildren, Katina Ashikis and Jimmy Saunders and his siblings, Helen Nikolas, Dorothy Sawyer and Jack Bellos and his wife Mary Jane as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Jim graduated from The University of Texas School of Pharmacy. He practiced pharmacy for 50 years. Jim started practicing in San Antonio and after his move to Houston he started practicing at Jones Apothecary and later he bought White Oak Pharmacy. After he retired, he was a relief pharmacist for Kelsey Seybold Clinic Pharmacy. Jim was a very active member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral serving as President of the community as well as assisting in the preparation of the Greek Festival, and volunteering in the “Money Room”.
Jim served in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. Jim was happiest when he was spending time with his family and friends. He cherished his grandchildren. He will always be remembered by his infectious laugh. Jim was always happy and telling jokes.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from nine o'clock until ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 11th of June, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Boulevard in Houston.
The funeral service will immediately follow at ten o'clock, also at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where the Cathedral clergy will officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a Makaria Luncheon honoring the memory of Jim in the nearby Martel Hall.
The family will gather for a private burial.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers during Friday’s service are John Gettas, Demetri Economou, Greg Asvestas, Matthew Asvestas, Michael Florian and Steve Harris.
Honorary pallbearers are Steve Poth, Larry Jennings, Peter Dameris, Terry Florian, Thad Dameris and Charles Hazen.
