James Preston Batiste was born to Eunice and Noel Batiste, Sr. on September 25, 1939 in Carencro, Louisiana. On Friday, September 7, 2012, he was called home at the age of 72. James "Kojak" was a thoughtful person who cared about everyone. He loved going to the casino, socializing with friends and always had a smile on his face. He leaves to mourn, wife Mary Louise Batiste and sister Willie Mae Cormier, nine children: Emma Charles, Joselyn Simon, Sondi Hunt, Geralyn Batiste, Byron Stevens, Deiadria Batiste, Fred Batiste, Twyla Batiste John and Harriet "Red" Christian. Also to cherish his memory are 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one aunt, Maude Harman, one uncle Clifton Zeno, two sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. A companion, Mary Ethel Living, and children Marie Wyatt, Mary Williams, Jackie McHenry, Phillip Living, Tammy Myers, Christina Tubbs, Loretta Living, Vanessa Thomas and Rhonda Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Alton Rubin, Sr. (Dopsie) and Noel Batiste, Jr. (Black), and son Keith James Batiste (Kee-Kee). Services for Kojak will be held on Saturday, September 15, beginnig at 9:00AM, with a visitation, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM. Both services will be held in the Garden of Hope Chapel of Paradise Funeral Home. James' earthly remains will rest peacefully in the Pardise North Cemetery.
