James Owen Ambrose passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2018. He was 90 years old. James and his wife, Margery lived at Parkway Place in Houston, Texas, after leaving their home of 48 years at 14802 Oak Bend, due to the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.
James was born on September 21, 1927 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. His parents were Owen and Ottra (Greer) Ambrose, also from Tonkawa. James graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1951with a degree in Geology. Shortly after, he met Margery Collier from Homer, Louisiana. They were married for 65 years and had 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
James worked for 47 years in the oil and gas industry. He contributed to the discovery and development of multiple oil and gas fields throughout the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast. He retired in 1998. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with children and grandchildren. In his younger days, James had a passion for singing and dancing! He and Margery use to enjoy spending time with each other reminiscing about the good ole days.
James is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Zuell and Zane; and sister, Bonnie.
He is survived by his wife, Margery; children, Gale, Rodney and his wife Cindy, Jeff and his wife Nancy; grandchildren, Brandon and his wife Grayleigh, Kristin, Rachel, Chase and Zachary; and great-grandchildren, Elliott, Tate; and his brother, Richard and his wife Dixie.
Services are to be held at Tallowood Baptist Church, Saturday January 20, 2018 at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the charity of your choice in James's memory.
