Jay Denton, 76, of Houston, TX passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife by his side.
Jay was born August 9th, 1944 to William Coulson and Virgie Denton of Fort Worth, TX.
Jay attended Lamar High School in Houston, TX and joined the US Army shortly after. He proudly served as a Sergeant in the First Calvary, 82nd Division during the Vietnam War. He would tell brave stories of being an aviation mechanic on a Huey helicopter. He entered active duty from Houston, Texas on 27 July, 1964 and was released on 26 July, 1967. He was a helicopter maintenance specialist. He served 11 months and 13 days in Vietnam and was serving at Fort Rucker, AL when he was discharged.
His awards and decorations include; Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign and Service Medals, Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. Anyone that knew him knew how proud he was to have served.
Jay worked several jobs until a friends father offered him the opportunity of becoming a piping designer.
Jay went on to become a piping designer/draftsman. Over the years he traveled a lot for work, he always worked hard to provide for his family.
In 1977, Jay and his then wife Linda, adopted a daughter, Traci.
In 1983 he met Naomi. Naomi likes to share the story of how from the night they first met she knew he was going to marry her and on April 28, 1990, Jay married the love of his life, Naomi.
Naomi has stood by his side and taken care of him faithfully and lovingly during his almost 25 year long cancer battle. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. He always had a helping hand.
He enjoyed working on cars and rebuilt his 67 El Camino with his grandson Zachary. He was so proud to spend this time with him doing what he loved most. Over the years Jay rode bulls, worked on cars for likely everyone he knew at one time or another, and loved to barbecue. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. He loved all 5 of his grandchildren and had a special place in his heart for each of them.
He was proud to recently celebrate thirty one years of marriage with Naomi. He always had an ear and a shoulder.
Jay is preceded in death by his Father, William Coulson Denton, Mother, Virgie Bertelsen Denton, and brother, William Coulson Denton.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi Denton, daughter, Traci Denton, grandsons Zachary, Daniel, and Jack Denton. Daughter, Laurie Allison. Grandson, James Allison. Daughter, Julie Mitchell. Granddaughter, Amber Mitchell. Other relatives and many great friends.
The family extends a heartfelt Thank You to friends, family, and neighbors for the love, kindness, and care during this most difficult time for each of us.
