J. Perdee Hudson, 90, born March 7, 1927 in Rosebud, Texas, passed away in Houston on January 6, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Perdee was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Dorothy Price Hudson and his parents Elmer Nelson Hudson and Lois Louise (Perry) Hudson.
Perdee graduated from Reagan High School in 1944 and shortly thereafter entered the Army Specialized Training Program. While stationed in Italy, he supervised the building of airports for the Army. Following WWII, the GI Bill afforded him the opportunity to attend and graduate from the University of Texas as an Architectural Engineer. He was a registered Professional Engineer for over 50 years. During his lengthy career, Perdee served as Plant Manager for Rackle Company’s prestressed concrete operations in Houston and was responsible for the precast concrete sections of many of the buildings in downtown Houston and NASA’s Johnson Space Center, the I-610 bridge over the ship channel, as well as the Astrodome.
He worked for 19 years as Vice President of Construction Operations for S & B Engineers and Constructors in Houston, where he helped to revolutionize safety work practices in the petrochemical industry. He was active at Spring Lake Estates in Conroe, Texas where he served multiple times as President of the Association.
He was an excellent bridge player, list maker, and an exceptional family man. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Astros. Nothing was more important than his family; he even built a 2-story treehouse for his grandkids, along with numerous bonfires. Perdee was especially proud to be the husband/father/grandpa to a family he loved and who loved him in return. His sons-in-law affectionately called him “Chief”. When asked how he could cope with five daughters, he often responded that it was the best thing that ever happened to him! Perdee loved to tell people that all 5 of his daughters and most of his grandkids had graduated from Texas A&M (or were on the way to do so) despite the fact that their father/grandfather graduated from UT.
He is survived by daughters: Susan K. Johnson and husband Jeff, Patricia Wroth and husband John, Nancy Littleton and husband Joey, Beverly J. Brinton and husband Wayne, and Judy Shamburger and husband Matt; 14 grandchildren: Sean, Christopher and Missy Johnson, Nicole and Laura Maxey, Kristin Killebrew, Nikki Krafft, Brittany Campbell and Cameron Littleton, Allyson Bood, Macy and Meghan Brinton, Jason and Jared Shamburger; 7 great grandchildren; sisters Ruth Weed and Lois Lambert.
Visitation will be at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home in Houston on January 11, 2018 from 6-8 pm with a 2 pm service held on January 12, 2018 at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.
