Born in San Antonio, TX, on December 22, 1952, Ivan was a first-generation American to parents Herman and Helen Suchowolski. Both Herman and Helen were Holocaust survivors who had immigrated as refugees to America along with Ivan's older sister Molly just a few years before his birth.
Ivan played tennis and baseball at Thomas Jefferson High School, where he graduated in 1970. After high school, Ivan received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1977 from the University of Texas at Austin with a double major in Marketing and Operations Management.
After graduating from UT, Ivan moved to The Woodlands, TX, where he laid down his roots and started his successful career of over 40 years in the mortgage industry. Beginning as a loan officer, Ivan soon became a proficient and experienced mortgage underwriter. Although renowned in his professional career, Ivan found his true passion on the baseball field where, for over 15 years, he spent his nights and weekends umpiring Little League baseball games at the ORWALL baseball fields. Esteemed by players and colleagues alike, in 2008, he was elected by the Umpires Association to umpire the Little League World Series.
When Ivan wasn't in the office or out on the baseball diamond, he spent his time with loved ones, whether they were his family, friends, or all the animals he had adopted and rescued over the years. A true altruist, provider, and protector, Ivan was always there to support anyone in their time of need or to lend a trusted, guiding hand.
Ivan is survived by his former spouses, Terry and Delinda. With Terry, he has one son, Justin Wayne Suchowolski. With Delinda, he has three beautiful daughters and a wonderful son: Chelly (husband Michael Williams), Nikki (husband Matt Kocak), Candice (husband Dalton Webb), and Tristian Monteaux. Forever carrying on his memory are his six cherished grandchildren who were the light of his life: Elliott, Owen, Jude, Kenzie, Aiden, and Emery. Ivan is further survived by his sister, Molly, her husband, Ronald Styer, and their children, Matt and Casey, along with his cousin Sam Spizman, his wife Gena, Dianne MacKay and her family.
Ivan will always be remembered by those closest to him as the mortgage guy, umpire, animal lover, cheer and swim dad, storyteller, provider, handyman, patriarch, and a great friend and leader. The void left by Ivan's passing will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him, forever serving as a testament to the generosity, warmth, and kindness he brought into the lives of so many.
