She was 73 years old. Irene was a loving and caring wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and an amazing sister.
Irene was born in Houston, Texas on October 23, 1947. Irene grew up in Houston where most of her childhood was spent with her family and cousins. She then moved to Austin with her parents where she attended and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. She returned to Houston where she met and was married for 50 years to her husband, James (Jim) H. Salmeron. Jim and Irene lived near the heights in Houston and remained in the same house for their entire marriage.
She is survived by her husband Jim, her daughter Amy Elizabeth (Joshua) Perrella, son James Christopher (Stephanie) and grandchildren Ilya and Ivy. Irene has three sisters, Gloria (Bob) Meyer, Lydia (David) Sturgis and Liz (Randall) Potts, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and dear friends.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Domingo and Isabel (Flores) Trevino.
Irene enjoyed spending time with her husband Jim and family, doing lots of shopping especially for antiques, going to the casino with relatives and friends, weekend road trips with her family and watching her favorite baseball team, the Houston Astros! Irene was a longtime parishioner of St Theresa’s Catholic Church in Houston. She loved her faith and had a fervent belief in the power of prayer. Irene was known for her compassionate heart, her love of laughter, giving and gracious attitude and infectious smile. It was always said she never met a stranger and every life she touched added a little bit of light and joy to world.
Services will be held on December 23, 2020 at the Forest Park Lawndale Chapel located at 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023. Visitation with family will be at 11:00 am, Chapel service will begin at 12:00 pm with burial service following at 1:00 pm.
