She was born in the Houston / Heights area to William and Rosa Engelbrecht on June 19, 1921. Irene met and married Lawrence in 1939, together they had three children and lived the "American Dream" in Oak Forest.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; family was a big part of her life. Irene was an active parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, she was a member of The Thursday Club, Altar Guild, volunteered with the Bereavement Support Group and was a deliverer for Meals on Wheels.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 50 years Lawrence, son in law Charles Proffer, three brothers and a sister. She is survived by her children Annette Proffer, Steve Kujawa and wife Jackie, Kenneth Kujawa and wife Peggy; grandchildren Chuck Proffer, Kevin Kujawa and wife Yukyung, Laura Duran and husband Greg, Cari Kujawa, Johnathan Kujawa; great grandchildren Blake Duran, Camryn Duran, Katrina Kujawa, Kasie Kujawa; brother Bill Engelbrecht; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, May 15th; a service to celebrate Irene's life will immediately follow at 6:00pm in the chapel of Pat H. Foley Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Forest Park Lawndale.
