Iona Nelle Smith

Iona Nelle Pierson Smith went to be with her Heavenly Father on March 5, 2016. Nelle was born in Bishop, Texas on October 3, 1922. She moved to Houston as a child and settled in the Heights area. She graduated from Reagan High School in 1940 and retired from Hamilton Jr. High (HISD) after working as clerk for 25 years.

She married William (Bill) Dorsett Smith in 1946 and was married for 58 years until his death in 2004. Nelle was a long time member of Baptist Temple in the Heights.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lon and Aleta Pierson; husband, Bill, and grandson, Jerry Woods.

She is survived by her son, William Stanton Smith (Rosalind); daughter, Carolyn Aleta Woods (Gary); son, Keith Dorsett Smith (Sharon); sisters, Wynona Grant, Lon L Moore (Joe), and Grace Whitton; sister-in-law, Josephine Smith, 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 W. 34th Street, Houston, Texas 77018. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 11:00am also at Pat H. Foley & Company with Interment following at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas 77060.
