Born in Cushing, Oklahoma on the 16th of June 1934 to Louis Pippenger and Opal Powell, she attended East Central State College and graduated in 1955 with degrees in Business Education and English. She met her husband Max Olivo Hutchins and they were married on the 2nd of June 1955 before moving to Houston in 1964.
Inez served as an owner and principal at Trafton Academy for 45 years. During that time, she meaningfully impacted the lives of thousands of students, parents, and faculty with her wisdom, generosity, love, and passion for education. As much as she loved Trafton, her real love was her family, and her grandchildren, in particular. She attended countless baseball, basketball, and soccer games and could always be relied upon to provide insightful analysis of either coaching strategy or playing performances post-game.
She is survived by her sister Jean Dauber, children Dr. Joe Hutchins and wife Jonell, Larry Hutchins and his wife Nicki, and Kris Nylund and her husband Jay; grandchildren William Hutchins and his wife Rebecca, Sarah Duffey and her husband Tyler, Rachel Waller and her husband Jack, Leslie Hamby and her husband Reed, Sydney Hutchins, Chase Hutchins, Paul Nylund, Mark Nylund and his wife Khali; and great-grandchildren Max, Harris, Annie and Mary Hutchins, Teddy and Roy Duffey, and Jett Waller. She is preceded by her beloved husband of 61 years, Dr. Max Hutchins, and sisters, Joan Deering and Peggy Tate.
A memorial service for Inez is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 18th of December, in the Sanctuary at Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family during a reception in the Deacon’s Parlor.
