Hugo was born on May 27, 1932 in Edinburg, Texas to Leonides and
Genoveva Gonzalez. He graduated from University of Texas in 1954 with
a degree in Pharmacy. After owning a pharmacy for four years, he decided
he wanted to become a physician and received his medical degree in 1965
from UTMB in Galveston, Texas. His children remember him as a generous
, driven, hard-working father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Hugo was an accomplished physician who was dedicated to his patients and
undoubtedly saved many lives. He was a true general practitioner who, due
to the period in which he practiced, was able to perform surgery, set bones,
and bring new lives into the world. He was a sharp, witty individual who loved
to cut-up with all those around him. He was passionate about politics, sports
and loved a good round of golf with family and friends. He enjoyed nothing
better than spending an afternoon practicing his golf game. He was also a
true believer in higher education and encouraged all young people to stay
in school and strive to excel.
