Howard Luther Reeves, age 88, passed away in Kingwood, Texas on January 9, 2015. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas on June 16, 1926 and grew up in Silsbee, Texas.
Howard served in the army medical corps during World War II, including service in the Philippine Islands. After his military service, he attended the University of Houston night school. He worked for the VA Hospital in Houston for thirty-seven years in the Radiology Department, retiring in 1988. After retirement, he remained close to his co-workers and enjoyed their annual reunions. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Downtown Campus.
Howard loved helping others, spending time with family and friends, and working with his hands. He devoted much of his time in retirement to building a country cottage near Silsbee, Texas on land that had been in his family for generations. Many of his relatives fondly remember seeing Howard build the house from the ground up and joining in to hammer a few nails themselves. Howard’s family and friends will remember him for his kindness, his frequent and sincere compliments, and the love he expressed so often.
Howard is survived by his wife, June Reeves, the love of his life to whom he was married for fifty-four years; his daughter Susan Tillinghast and her husband Sam; his much loved grandchildren, April Tillinghast and Grant Tillinghast; brother Joe Reeves; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Street, on Wednesday, January 14th, at 10:00 am, with burial to follow. Visitation will be held Forest Park Lawndale on Tuesday, January 13th, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Memorials may be made in memory of Howard L. Reeves to the First United Methodist Church of Houston, 1320 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002 or to a charity of your choice.
