Howard was born on March 3rd, 1940, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Howard Irving Mason, Sr. and Ernestine Cantrell Mason. He and his sisters, Joan and Pam, were raised in São Paulo, Brazil.
Howard attended St. Stephen’s School in Austin and Southern Methodist University, where he married Anne. They had Cynthia, Howard III, and Kathleen. He later married Georgia, and they had Samuel.
Howard had a highly successful, multi-decade career in marine and energy insurance with Adams & Porter, which became AON.
He spent many hours with his beloved dogs and had a lifelong passion for nature, hunting, and fishing. He participated in numerous fishing events, including the CCA STAR Tournament and Poco Bueno. He enjoyed over 40 years in Port O’Connor, Texas, and was a Director and Life Member of the Coastal Conservation Association.
In 1986, Howard married Millicent, and they had 32 wonderful years together. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and being active members and supporters of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.
Howard was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by Joan and Pam, Millicent, six children: Cindy, Howard III, Kathy, Sam, Bleakney, and John and their families. He is also mourned by sister-in-law Susan and family, brother-in-law Phil’s family, and numerous life-long friends and associates.
The Visitation will be Tuesday, June 12, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, Houston, Texas 77057. The Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 13th, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056.
