Horace Edward Roberson passed awway peacefully at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center on October 16, 2011, at the age of 89. Horace was born and raised in Itasca, Hill County, Texas. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Italy, where he was wounded in combat, for which he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
Horace was married to Wilma Stokes Roberson, from Bynum, Hill County, Texas, for 66 years. She predeceased him in 2008. He is survived by: brother, W.A. Roberson and wife, Joyce; nephew Ricky Deese, his nieces Beverly Day and Debbie Blew, and his wife's nieces Sandra Durrett and Pamela Zanek, and nephews Howard C. Lee, Jr. and Richard Seay.
A 35 year employee and officer of Commercial Title Company and Chicago Title Company, as an escrow officer he closed hundreds of real estate transactions until his retirement in 1985. An avid golfer, he shot par until he was well into his 80's.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Horace's name to Willow Meadows Baptist Church, where he was an active member.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am with burial to follow.
